Big Scary Egg-eater.

Common Egg-eaters (Dasypeltis scabra) put on a big threat display aimed at intimidating potential threats.
The rough scales are rubbed against each other, creating that rasping sound. The head is flattened into a triangular shape and the inky black mouth is exposed. The snake looks ferocious but is completely harmless.

A young Rinkhals (Hemachatus haemachatus) from Gau

A young Rinkhals (Hemachatus haemachatus) from Gauteng. One of the few elapids to give birth to live young, producing 20–30 offspring in midsummer (around February). Neonates measure 16–22 cm and vary from light brown to banded patterns depending on locality.

A young Green Mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps) from the South Coast, KwaZulu-Natal. Juveniles are typically bluish-green, becoming brighter green with age. The eye colour is a light olive-green colour.

A harmless Variegated Slug-eater (Duberria variegata) from Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal. These small, harmless snakes are found in thick leaf litter where they hunt slugs and snails. Males are often much darker, while females range from reddish brown to tan.

A venomous Many-horned Adder (Bitis cornuta) from

A venomous Many-horned Adder (Bitis cornuta) from Namaqualand. Its cytotoxic venom causes severe pain, swelling, and possible tissue necrosis. Antivenom is not effective, and bites are treated symptomatically.
