Full name: Orange Lesser-Thicktail Scorpion (Uroplectes planimanus)
Classification: MILDLY VENOMOUS
A medium sized scorpion under 7 cm with the tail extended. It is orange to yellow in colour often with a darker back with orange to yellow bars across it. The legs and pincers are yellow to orange as is the tail, sometimes with a darker last segment.
In South Africa it is only found in western Limpopo and North-west province. It occurs north into Botswana, Zimbabwe ad Namibia. It is found under rocks and debris usually on hard soils. It is also active on warm nights.
It may be confused with other Lesser Thick-tailed Scorpions, but is the largest species of the genus
The sting of this species may cause pain but is not medically important.
