Anchieta’s Dwarf Python

A small python that averages 1.2 m with a maximum length of around 1.8 m. This protected snake inhabits riverine bush and rugged rocky habitat in Namibia where it hunts for warm-blooded prey such as rodents and birds.

A small python that averages 1.2 m with a maximum length of around 1.8 m. This protected snake inhabits riverine bush and rugged rocky habitat in Namibia where it hunts for warm-blooded prey such as rodents and birds.

It is a placid snake and quite rare – sadly popular in the pet trade and often poached and smuggled out of the country. Females produce a 3 – 10 eggs in early summer and the young measure around 50 cm in length. Due to its small size and placid nature, this snake is considered harmless to humans.
