Bicoloured Quill-snouted Snake

A colourful nocturnal snake that is usually dark brown or black on top, with yellow or white sides. It is fossorial, only coming to the surface on hot, moist summer nights.

A colourful nocturnal snake that is usually dark brown or black on top, with yellow or white sides. It is fossorial, only coming to the surface on hot, moist summer nights.

It is a long thin snake averaging 30-50 cm in length. The quill-snouted snakes are slow-moving snakes that hunt for legless lizards underground or in leaf litter at night.

This species is easily identified by its pronounced quill-like snout. Its venom is mild and has little effect on humans.
